EVENT | The Special Investigative Commission on fires in Valparaíso Region, February 2024

On Thursday, 9th of May 2024, the Special Investigative Commission of the Chamber of Deputies invited the Director of WildfireX Constanza González Mathiesen, because of her academic and researcher specializing in urban planning and strategies for development and resilience to disasters, particularly in the management and implementation of measures against the threat of wildfire. This commission oversees the government actions conducted by the Ministries, public services dependent on these ministries, and the Presidential Delegation of Valparaíso between 2023 and 2024. These actions are related to the instructions given and recommendations made for the development of communal emergency and evacuation plans, the implementation of prevention, alert, combat, and evacuation measures regarding wildfires, and the safety and social measures for first response to victims, debris removal, reconstruction, and recovery of economic activity. The commission focuses particularly on the actions taken during the fires that affected the communes of Valparaíso, Viña del Mar, Quilpué, and Villa Alemana in February 2024.
